Focus: Hold the shutter button down halfway. Use both hands to take pictures and hold the camera still. Keep the camera close to your body.

Lighting (Artificial vs Natural): Sun should always be over your shoulder. Have good back lighting. Clouds are a good thing.

Rule of thirds: Divides a picture shot into 9 grids (Object should be in the middle corners of the grid). Move subject from the center of the picture.

Importance of background: Eliminate unnecessary items in the pictures background. Plain backgrounds are best.
